Caregivers Support Group
Suwannee River Economic Council offers a Caregivers Support Group for anyone caring for a loved with a chronic illness. This group allows participants an opportunity to meet with other caregivers in a confidential environment to share problems and concerns. Meetings are held the last Thursday each month.

After Breast Cancer Diagnosis (ABCD)

Free, personalized one-to-one mentoring to anyone impacted by breast cancer, ensuring no one faces it alone. Their service creates a unique match between participants and professionally trained mentors based on shared diagnosis, treatment plans, and similar life factors like age, career, and family dynamics. This virtual support is available internationally to patients, survivors, previvors, and caregivers, offering hope, compassion, and understanding when needed the most.
Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation
The mission of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation is to assist children and young adults 0-22 years old with leukemia and other cancers and their families by providing emotional and financial support to help reduce the stress associated with treatment and improve their quality of life up to 6 months following treatment. Child must be a permanent resident of North Florida, South Georgia, Northern NJ, or New York City. All financial assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis based on the needs of the child and family. To apply for financial assistance in Florida, families should contact a hospital social worker.

The Social Security Administration provides financial assistance to those who qualify for Social Security government funded programs. Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE)
This is a free insurance counseling program designed for elders, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers. Highly trained volunteers assist elders with their health insurance questions. Provides assistance with and information on Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans, Medicare Savings Programs, Low-Income Subsidies assistance with Medicare Part D Plans, and Patient Assistance Programs for help with prescriptions through the pharmaceutical companies.

Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS)
A student student-run organization in UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine that aims to improve the quality of life for low income Alachua County residents, some of which are suffering from terminal or disabling disease, by offering free veterinary care. These services are also available to persons with disabilities. Call for eligibility.
Florida KidCare
Florida KidCare is the brand name for the four income-based health insurance programs: Medicaid, MediKids, Florida Healthy Kids and the Children’s Medical Services (CMS) Health Plan. They provide coverage for uninsured Florida children from birth through 18 years old. Covers doctor visits, hospital care, medicines, dental, vision, and more. Fees vary from $15 – $20 a month based on income and family size. Some programs may not be available in all areas. Call for additional information or application.

The Elder Helpline is a telephone information and referral service for seniors, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers. The Elder Helpline is your starting point for seeking information and assistance about resources and programs available in North Central Florida. The organization providing the help line, Elder Options, provides many other services and resources for aging individuals that can be found on their website.

Christian Services Center
Christian Services Center offers services for food and clothing, utility assistance, fuel assistance for out of town doctors appointments and work, and prescription assistance (non-controlled) all specifically for residents of Columbia, Hamilton, and Union counties. Must make an appointment to determine eligibility for assistance.
