Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS)
A student student-run organization in UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine that aims to improve the quality of life for low income Alachua County residents, some of which are suffering from terminal or disabling disease, by offering free veterinary care. These services are also available to persons with disabilities. Call for eligibility.
Florida KidCare
Florida KidCare is the brand name for the four income-based health insurance programs: Medicaid, MediKids, Florida Healthy Kids and the Children’s Medical Services (CMS) Health Plan. They provide coverage for uninsured Florida children from birth through 18 years old. Covers doctor visits, hospital care, medicines, dental, vision, and more. Fees vary from $15 – $20 a month based on income and family size. Some programs may not be available in all areas. Call for additional information or application.
Elder Helpline
The Elder Helpline is a telephone information and referral service for seniors, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers. The Elder Helpline is your starting point for seeking information and assistance about resources and programs available in North Central Florida. The organization providing the help line, Elder Options, provides many other services and resources for aging individuals that can be found on their website.

Christian Services Center
Christian Services Center offers services for food and clothing, utility assistance, fuel assistance for out of town doctors appointments and work, and prescription assistance (non-controlled) all specifically for residents of Columbia, Hamilton, and Union counties. Must make an appointment to determine eligibility for assistance.

Central Florida Community Action Agency – Chiefland
Central Florida Community Action Agency provides direct assistance and referrals for basic needs including rental assistance, energy payments, nutrition, transportation, and more. This program is designed to provide immediate assistance to individuals to overcome one-time situations of dire need. This assistance is available to those who apply to the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Raising and Improving Self-Sufficiency Expectations (R.I.S.E.) Program.

Emergency assistance is provided for rent, food, utilities and limited prescription assistance. Must provide: Photo ID and Social Security Cards for everyone over 18 years of age living in the home. Food Pantry is open from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Monday – Thursday, excluding holidays. The regional office is open Monday – Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Programs also available that provide assistance at Thanksgiving or Christmas time.

The Pink Fund
The Pink Fund provides breast cancer patients in active treatment with up to 90 days of non-medical financial assistance. Payments are made directly to their creditors to maintain their health insurance. Additional payments may be made for housing, transportation and utilities. Eligible applicants must have been employed at the time of their diagnosis but are now unable to work and collect a paycheck while in treatment. Applications are available at thepinkfund.org under “Get Help.”
The Patient Advocate Foundation’s Co-Pay Relief Program
This program, aimed at those with insurance, including Medicare Part D, helps patients diagnosed with many types of cancer, including brain tumors. They provide direct payment for co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles for patients who need financial assistance. Assistance is provided to cancer patients based on proof of inability to pay.
Blood Cancer United’s Co-Pay Assistance Program

Helps with the cost of Private, Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE insurance premiums, and treatment-related co-pays and co-insurance for prescription drugs, labs, scans, tests, etc. Assistance is provided to cancer patients based on proof of inability to pay.
