Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE)
This is a free insurance counseling program designed for elders and persons with disabilities and their caregivers. Highly trained volunteers assist elders with their health insurance questions. Provides assistance with and information on Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans, Medicare Savings Programs, Low-Income Subsidies assistance with Medicare Part D Plans, Patient Assistance Programs for help with prescriptions through the pharmaceutical companies.

Florida KidCare
Florida KidCare is Health Insurance for uninsured children ages birth through 18 years old. Covers Doctors visits, hospital care, medicines, lab tests and more. Fees may vary from $15 – $20 a month and are based on income and family size. Some programs may not be available in all areas. Call for additional information or application.

Christian Services Center
Christian Services Center offers emergency services for food, clothing (every 4 months), housing (limited), limited financial assistance with utility final notice, bus tickets, gas vouchers, prescriptions (no pain) and medical equipment (walkers, canes, etc).

Central Florida Community Action Agency- Chiefland
The Emergency Assistance program may help eligible households with immediate financial emergencies, and assist with disaster relief. Central Florida Community Action Agency has a limited amount of funding available to the community for one-time emergency needs. FCFAA cannot help with on-going crisis. CFCAA may provide direct assistance and referrals for basic needs, including rental assistance, energy payments, nutrition, transportation and temporary shelter.

Central Florida Community Action Agency- Alachua
The Emergency Assistance program may help eligible households with immediate financial emergencies. Central Florida Community Action Agency provides direct assistance and referrals for basic needs including rental assistance, energy payments, nutrition, transportation, temporary shelter and more. This program is designed to provide immediate assistance to individuals to overcome one-time situations of dire need.

Emergency assistance is provided for rent, food, utilities and limited prescription assistance. Must provide: Photo ID and Social Security Cards for everyone over 18 years of age living in the home. Food Pantry is open from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Monday – Thursday. Rent and Utility Assistance provided only once. RX Program is once every 6 months up to $20.00 at Wise’s Pharmacy. Programs also available that provide assistance with Thanksgiving or Christmas.

The Pink Fund
The Pink Fund provides breast cancer patients in active treatment with up to 90 days of non-medical financial assistance. Payments are made directly to their creditors to maintain their health insurance. Additional payments may be made for housing, transportation and utilities. Applicants must be gainfully employed at the time of their diagnosis and not working and not collecting a paycheck while in treatment. Applications are available at thepinkfund.org under Get Help.
The Patient Advocate Foundation’s Co-Pay Relief Program
This program, aimed at those with insurance, including Medicare Part D, helps patients diagnosed with many types of cancer, including brain tumors. Assistance is provided to cancer patients based on proof of inability to pay by the National Cancer Institute and at CancerNet, which is run by ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology).
